Victims of cyberbullying should be able to learn who is bullying them, said a panel in the Ministry of Communications on June 4.

Website operators, social media companies and internet service providers should have to reveal the names and phone numbers of people who make defamatory posts, the panel said.

However, some members of the panel said they were worried this would harm freedom of expression.

総務省の有識者検討会は6月4日、インターネットで中傷を受けている被害者が自分たちを標的にしている投稿者を特定できるようにすることで一致した。

ウェブサイト運営者、SNS事業者やインターネットプロバイダは、他人の名誉を傷つけるような投稿をする人たちの名前や電話番号も開示できるようにすべきである、と同検討会は述べた。

しかし、メンバーの中にはこのことが表現の自由を侵害するのではと懸念を示す者もいた。
